Step One: Obtain a Google Maps API Key from Google.
Go to http://code.Google.com/apis/maps/signup.html. If you don't reach the signup page, the address might have been changed,
so search Google for "Google Maps API Sign Up."
- Enter your site's URL.
-
Agree to Google's Terms of Use.
-
Click the Generate Google API Key. At this point, you will need to open a Google account, if you do not already have one. This is a no charge account.
-
Google will bring up the key screen.
-
Copy the key to your clipboard. Highlight the key, and then press the control button and the key "C" at the same time. The copied key will remain saved for awhile. (Ctrl + C)
Step Two: Add the Map API Key to your site.
Once the API Key has been obtained, it needs to be added to the site, so that it can work with the Google Maps widget.
-
In Edit Mode, from the Administration dropdown in the gray panel to the left of your screen, select Sites. The Site Administration screen comes up. See below.
2. Enter the Google API Key in the space at the lower right of the screen. Or, move your cursor to the Google API Key entry box,
and click. Then, on your keyboard, you can press the control key and the "V" letter key at the same time, and the key code will
be pasted in the box. (Ctrl + V; "paste command")
3. Click Apply to add the Key.
4. Click Done to close the Sites Administration screen.
Step Three: Add the Google Maps widget to the selected page on your site.
1. Go to the page where you want the Google Map to to be placed.
2. Click the Add Content button located in the gray panel to the left of your screen. The Add Content wizard comes up.
3. Scroll down the Content Type screen, and select Google Map. Click Next to go to the Placement screen.
4. Select a Content Placement option, and the panel where you want the map placed.
-
This page only means the Google map will only appear on the selected page.
-
This page and any page beneath it will place the Google map on the selected page, and all those beneath it.
5. Complete the Publish Dates, Visibility and Publishing screens as needed.
6. Click Finish . The Google map will now be added to the page or pages you've selected.
