Creating a Search Engine Results Page

A Search Engine Results Page is designed to display

the findings of specific keywords or topics on an isolated page.

A perfect example is the Knowledge Center's Search Engine.

Search Results will appear on a page that is separate from the rest

 of the Knowledge Center's pages.

If your Search Results appear on the same page as the Search bar,

your Search Results may visually compete with the page's colors, Content, and design

Additionally, Webtreepro offers you the opportunity

to individualize the appearance of your Search Engine Results page.

If you want your site visitor to see

the Search Engine Results displayed

 on a separate page,

you must first create that page.

You will  need to go to the gray panel to the left of your screen,

and select Add Page.

The Add Page wizard comes up.

The wizard's tabs are shown below.

   1.   Go through each tab of the Add Page wizard.

      • At the Page Attributes tab, you might want to consider checking the box that offers the option to Exclude this page from the menu.  This will keep the Search Results page from being seen by your visitors.
      • In other words, you probably don't want a Search Results page listed in your website's menu.
      • To review the steps of adding a page to your site, see the page, Add a New Page, or click here.

   2.   When you have successfully added a new page, you'll need to return to the gray panel.  This time, select Add Content

   3.   Scroll down to Search Engine Results and click.

   4.   The Add Content wizard will come up.

  5.   Click Next   to go to the Placement tab.

      • Typically, the Search Results page will be the only page showing the results, so you'll want to choose This page only

      • Now, choose in which panel you want the Search Results to be displayed.  Some of the Templates seen above may or may not be the same Template selection you have available for your use. The needs of individual websites vary.  Webtreepro offers different selections to meet your website's particular needs.
      • To review Content Placement, click here.

   6.   Click Next   to go to Details which has 2 tabs.  First, we'll look at  the Common Properties tab seen below.

Details Tab;  Common Properties:

   1.   Highlite Color:  Enter a hex color code number, or choose a highlight color from the color palette by clicking in the square.

The color you choose will highlight the key search word or search phrase.

   2.   Number of items per page:  Using the dropdown, choose how many results you want displayed on the page.  You can

         choose from 5 to 50.

   3.   Show the total number of results:  If you check this box, it will give you a total number of Search Results.  This will show

at the top of the results.

    4.   Select Results Page:  You have created a separate page to display the Search Engine Results, so use the dropdown to

select the page you have just created. The screen below will appear.  You will see the title of the separate Search Results page.

        • If at this point you've changed your mind, and don't want the Search Results shown on a separate page, use the dropdown arrow to select "None."

    5.   Default Text:  If you would like a certain text to show in the Search box, enter it here.  An example might be, "I'm looking for..."

When a visitor begins to enter a Search term, the Default Text will disappear.  This is seen in Published Mode or when you select

Date Preview located in the gray panel to the left of your screen.

    6.   Search Button:  Selecting the Default will give you the image of a typical Search button, but you can choose another image from your

library by clicking Select located at the center bottom of the Common Properties tab.  See above arrow.

        • This will take you to your library where you can make your selection.  Your selected image will show up under Preview, bottom right.

        • If the image is not exactly what you had in mind, just click Select again to return to your library where you can make

anotherr selection.  If you have completely changed your mind and decide against having a Custom Image, click None that is

located in the center of the tab under Custom Image.  See arrow below.  Your image will be deleted.

   7.   Now, click the Styles tab.  Do not click "Next" yet, as it will take you to Publish Dates in the Add Content wizard.. At Styles, you can

To choose different Fonts, click on the Font button .   To cancel any selections, click Clear   .

   1.   It's not necessary to choose any special fonts or colors for fonts on the Styles tab, but if you do, the Search Engine Results

will be more attractive to your site visitors.

      • Title Style Font:  This font will be seen in the title of the Search Engine Results.   There are 9 different fonts to choose from.

      • Use the dropdown arrow to look through the font choices.

      • At the same time, you can choose the font's style and the size of the font.

      • Every time you make a choice, the preview window at the bottom will show you how the font style will look.  The example below is showing Comic Sans MS in bold type at 36 size font.
      • If you change your mind, you can delete your choices by clicking Clear   .

      • Title Style Color:  If you know the hex color code number, you can enter it in the blank box.  Otherwise, click on the square and choose a color from the color palette.

      • Summary Text Style Font and Color:  The chosen font and color will be seen in the sentence of the search result.

      • Url Style Font and Color:  The chosen font and color will be seen in the Url of the page that matches the search result.

   2.   If you don't need to go to the other Search Engine Results tabs, you can click Finish .  It will bring you back to your

working page, and your Search Engine Results Page will be in place.  To test it, you'll need to be in Published Mode, or you can click

on Date Preview which is located in the gray panel to the left of your screen.
