All About the Date Preview of a Page

Let's say you have a published, "live" page in your website.

Planning ahead, you want to add to it some time-sensitive material, like a holiday special

or a seasonal promotion.

You don't want to put a Stop Date on the page, because it's a "live" page

that's currently available to website visitors.

You don't want to put the promotion or special on the page at the current date

because that would be out of place, as in an ad for Halloween decorations

when the current month is March.

Webtreepro has a tool that is perfect for this situation.

Date Preview will allow you to add time-sensitive Content to the page, and have it appear

on the page at a future date, all the while the current page remains viewable to your customers.

Using Date Preview is also a quick way to see your page as it would appear in Published Mode.

To use the Date Preview tool,

go to the gray panel to the left of your screen.

Click on Date Preview located

at the bottom of the panel.

A white screen

will appear briefly

with a message

 in the upper left corner

of the screen, stating that Webtreepro is generating a preview of the page

Below is the same page seen at different times of the year from a fictitious website

 that sells seasonal merchandise.

This is what the page looks like in March.                      This is the page as it's being worked on.                This is the page sometime before Halloween.

Follow these steps to work with Date Preview.

   1.   Go to the page where you want to add Content that will be seen at a later time, and add an Article.  To review the page Add  an Article, click here.

   2.   Enter the time-sensitive Content into the Article.  If you have more than one time-sensitive Content, be sure each is placed in its own Article.

      • When complete, right click in the Content.  Do not click the Save icon  as this will make the time-sensitive Content published, and viewable to all site visitors.  You want to delay the viewing until a specific date.

      • The Page Details window will come up, seen below left.   Select Properties, which will bring up the Page Elements wizard.  Then, select the Publish Dates tab.

      • Enter the Start Date and Stop Date for the time sensitive Content.  To review Start Date and Stop Date, click here.
      • Click Finish    to exit.

   3.   Now, go to the gray panel to the left of your screen, and click on the calendar that is underneath Date Preview.  See example below.

   4.   Use the dropdown arrow to the right of September to choose the month when you want the time-sensitive Content to be visible.

   5.   Use the dropdown arrow to the right of 2010 to choose the year when you want the time-sensitive Content to be visible.

   6.   You can use the arrows to the left of September to go backward or forward, month by month.

   7.  Choose a date by clicking on the day.  Click the   to the right of 2010 to exit the calendar.

   8.  Now that you have chosen the date, month and year, click on the Date Preview button located in the gray panel to the left of your screen to see how the

page will appear on that specific day.

(If the page you're working on has a Stop Date, the Date Preview feature will not engage.)

   9.   Date Preview will bring up the page in a separate browser.

      • You cannot edit this page, but you can test any hyperlinks that might be on the page.
      • The Preview page shows how the page will look on the dates you chose while on the Publish Dates page.
      • To exit this Preview page, close the window.  You will be taken back to your working page.

Note

As this is a "working" page, you will see all the time-sensitive Content in place which may be a little disturbing.  To reassure yourself that each time-sensitive Content will be seen on the correct dates, change the dates on the Date Preview calendar to coincide with the time-sensitive Content, and then click the Date Preview button in the gray panel to the left of your screen.

 10.   You can flip back and forth from your working page to the Date Preview page until everything is to your satisfaction.

 11.   Click Save .to keep all your changes.

Use Date Preview as an alternative way to check the "look" of your page:

   1.   Many times while editing, we need to make sure the images and text are esthetically balanced.  One way to do this is to click the "Save" button, and

          then go into Published Mode.

   2.   A faster way to check your page is to just click Date Preview.  In a few seconds, you can see your page in Published Mode.  This is also a quick way to

check any hyperlink that may be on this page.

   3.   To exit Date Preview, click the red exit button   in the top right corner of the Preview window.
