Creating a blog site is very similar to creating a child site, except it is done through the Blog Administration, rather than the Site Administration. After your blog site is created, it functions in the same way as a child site. You may push pages and content from the parent site to your blog site, or you may create local pages and content directly from the blog site itself.
Opening the Blog Administration
- Click on the Administration dropdown arrow on the left-hand side of your screen. Then select Blogs.
- This will bring up the Blog Administration.
Create a New Blog Site
- Click the Create new blog button.
- This will pull up the "Add new Blog" panel.
- Fill in all the required fields, marked in red:
- Blog Name: Choose a name for your blog. It can contain letters, numbers, dots (.), hyphens (-), comma (,) and underscores (_).
- Full domain (Blog URL): If you have a domain for your blog, enter it here, OR
- Sub-domain (Blog URL): Enter a sub-domain for the URL to your blog.
- Fill in any additional optional fields that you choose.
- Skin and Template: Click the Template & Skin Selector button if you would like to change the template or skin.
- Ping Services URL: The URL for your blog site to speed up indexing by alerting search portals and other services a message that you have fresh content
- Settings:
- Enable comments: If checked, viewers of the blog will be able to leave comments.
- Moderate comments: If checked, comments will be subject to approval before being posted on the blog. Comments can be approved in the Comment Moderation tab of the Blog Administration on your blog site. Additionally, an email will be sent to the SiteEmail from which the blog site was created, whether parent or child site, notifying the site owner that a comment was added and needs to be reviewed. In the case of a child site that does not have a SiteEmail configured, the notification will be sent to the SiteEmail of the parent site.
- Enable feeds: allows news aggregators to access your blog site automatically looking for new content and then post updates about new content to subscribed sites
- When complete, do one of the following:
- Click Apply to save the blog and remain in the Blog Administration screen. You will see a message saying that your blog was added successfully.
- Click Done to save the new blog and exit the screen.
- Click Cancel to abandon any changes and exit the screen.
Edit an Existing Blog Site
- Open the Blog Administration.
- In the Current Blogs panel, click on the blog you wish to edit.
- Make the desired changes to the various fields in the "Edit Blog" panel.
- When complete, do one of the following:
- Click Apply to save the changes and remain in the Blog Administration screen. You will see a message saying that your blog was modified successfully.
- Click Done to save the changes and exit the screen.
- Click Cancel to abandon any changes and exit the screen.
Delete a Blog Site
- Open the Blog Administration.
- In the Current Blogs panel, click on the blog you wish to delete.
- Click the Delete button.
- A warning message will pop up.
- Click OK.
- You will see a message saying that the blog was deleted successfully.
