Question:
Do you have a recommendation with regards to the size of image files that should be used on the site? I'm worried that the size will slow down the uploading of the page.
Answer:
Optimizing images and graphics is almost a must. Having a large image could slow down the upload time for your page. Record the time it takes for your site to load. If it's longer than 3 seconds, you should consider optimizing your graphics and/or images.
Here are some tips:
- If you have a picture or photograph, use JPG which is a compressed file with good quality standards.
- GIF is used more for graphics that have lines and shapes with sharp edges and text. GIF can also be used for animation.
- PNG is great for quality and file size, and supports transparency.
- Avoid saving a JPG to either PNG or GIF as the images usually come out distorted.
